From the Arashiyama lookout you can see the city, the Ishikari River and the Daisetsuzan range. At the foot of the hill, Hoppō Yasōen is one of Japan’s largest gardens of northern wild plants, with more than 600 species.[15]
In Ainu, Arashiyama is Chi-nomi-sir, the Asahikawa Ainu’s “mountain of prayer”. At the Chinomishir Kamuynomi ceremony in May or June (14 June in 2026), people honor the ancestors, among them the Kamikawa chief Kuchinkure, and pray for the community.[13][32][62]
Arashiyama Park also has a monument to a famous view: in 1885 Iwamura Michitoshi and Nagayama Takeshirō surveyed the basin from Chikabumi-yama. The Ainu Culture Forest Denshō no Kotan is in the park too.[4][1][39]
