This museum in the grounds of Asahikawa Shrine, in Higashi-Asahikawa, is about the tondenhei, the farmer-soldiers.[4][73]
In August 1892, 400 farmer-soldier households settled in what was then Asahikawa Village and is now the Higashi-Asahikawa district. It was the second farmer-soldier settlement, after Nagayama in June 1891.[63][1]
Higashi-Asahikawa Town became part of the city in 1963. Asahiyama Zoo is in the same district.[4][1][42]
