Tokiwa Park is the oldest of the city’s 438 parks: about 16 ha of elm, fir and poplar avenues around Chidorigaike pond. In 1989 it was chosen as one of Japan’s 100 best city parks.[1][15]
Its opening year depends on where you look: the city’s “Eight Views” page says 1910, and the city profile says 1916.[15][1]
The Hokkaido Asahikawa Museum of Art, opened in 1982, and the Central Library stand in the park.[15][1]
